Plant Magic 70/30 Supreme is the latest coco-based growing media to hit the horticultural market. The Plant Magic range is built on science, with each product undergoing thorough testing on their in-house grows for quality assurance. Plant Magic 70/30 Supreme combines the growing power of pre fertilised coconut husk with the aeration and water management properties of fytocell and perlite.

Plant Magic created this multi-blend substrate to give plants everything they need to flourish from day one, while growers have full control over the nutritional uptake of their plants. The substrate is made up of 70% coconut husk, 15% fytocell, and 15% perlite pebbles, with each component having a specific role in the substrate.

Also known as coir, the coco is sourced from India’s largest producer of coconut husk for the horticulture industry. In its purest form, coconut husk (coco) is naturally high in salts. To make it suitable for plant growth, the coco is buffered with a calcium-magnesium solution to remove excess salts. The light and fibrous texture of shredded coconut husk makes this natural product highly absorbent, while also promoting drainage, aeration, and rapid root development. These natural properties are the primary reason why Plant Magic chose to create its superior 70/30 Supreme media. While soil can become waterlogged, the light texture of ground coco provides oxygen to the rootzone, which is crucial for healthy root development. Additionally, coco provides growers with a blank canvas that they can then add all their plant nutrients to. With its low EC value, high absorption, and light texture, the treated coir in Plant Magic 70/30 Supreme gives growers superior control over their plants’ environment.

Fytocell is added to 70/30 Supreme to improve the substrate’s water absorbency and air permeability. Fytocell is an organic, biodegradable substrate with an open-cell structure. It has a lightweight, flaky texture which ensures great water management, germination, and root development. Like a sponge, the fytocell absorbs and retains water and nutrients for the growing root network to locate and feed from.

Perlite pebbles also contribute to the substrate’s drainage, but its main role is to improve aeration. Perlite is expanded volcanic glass, and its porous structure allows liquids to flow through it more freely. This means that plants grown in Plant Magic 70/30 Supreme will require more frequent watering compared to other coco-based substrates without perlite, but the pay off is that the plants grow much faster and larger. With improved drainage, you’ll also reduce the likelihood of encountering root diseases like pythium.

Combined with the coir, these natural ingredients create a well aerated substrate with fantastic drainage and nutrient retention.
