Giant Vegetable World Record with IWS Trident & Plant Magic Nutrients

Global Air Supplies is dedicated to helping our growers go above and beyond with their growing projects. In 2024, our IWS Trident Flood & Drain system and Plant Magic nutrients were pivotal for growing record-breaking giant vegetables.

Kevin Forty, aka Mr Giant Veg has been awarded TWO Giant Vegetable World Records this year. That’s a grand total of 11 Giant Vegetable World Records from Guinness World Records so far.

Mr Forty’s first 2024 Giant Vegetable World Record was awarded for his giant cucumber plant, measuring an impressive 6.497 metres. The second Giant Vegetable World Record was given for a 41cm aubergine. The combined efforts of the IWS Trident Flood & Drain system and Plant Magic nutrients resulted in this immense growth. In an article for Stiga, Mr Forty said the ‘cucumbers have grown incredibly well in this system … We used a 450-litre reservoir filled with Plant Magic nutrients.’

Flood & Drain Success:

IWS Trident Flood & Drain systems control the amount of water and nutrients that roots are exposed to. This precise method increases the plants’ nutrient absorption, root strength, and overall health.

IWS Trident Flood & Drain systems work by flooding substrate and rootzone with nutrient-enriched water for a predetermined period. After flooding, the IWS Trident Flood & Drain system drains the environment completely, drawing air into the rootzone. Drained water and nutrient solution enter the reservoir and returns to the nutrient tank for the next flood schedule.

This method forces plants to behave as if they are experiencing drought. This encourages the root network to grow deeper into the substrate in search of more nutrients. It also encourages the plants to absorb and retain greater quantities of nutrient during flooding periods. After draining, air in the substrate dries the root mass, reducing oversaturation, mould, and root rot.

Magical Growth Rates:

Plant Magic nutrients supported the growth rate of Mr Forty’s giant vegetables. Mr Forty also attended various horticultural events around the UK and America. Mr Forty attended a talk on growing giant vegetables at the Royal Jersey Showground and judged their giant vegetable competition. At the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, Mr Forty participated in the UK Giant Vegetable Championships. In Ventura, California, he was invited to talk at the annual Rare Seeds Expo.

After all his successes throughout 2024, Mr Giant Veg is hoping 2025 will blossom with even more Giant Vegetable World Records. Mr Forty is also driven by opportunities to educate and inspire the next generation of vegetable growers across the UK.
