NutSystems pH Test Kits
A quick, easy, and affordable pH Test Kit from NutSystems for testing the pH level of your nutrient solution.
The pH scale measures how acidic or alkaline your nutrient solution is. Regardless of your preferred substrate, the recommended pH range is between 6.2 and 7.2, with 7 being pH neutral (neither acidic nor alkaline). These kits are perfect for growers with a smaller set-up, those who are just starting out, or those looking to keep costs down. NutSystems offers two versions of this pH Test Kit.
The Wide Spectrum pH Test offers a broad indication of the pH level of your nutrient solution, between pH 4 and 10. This test is a great starting point for new and inexperienced growers. As the crystal-clear colours will help to build your understanding of the acid to alkaline spectrum. With this kit, growers should aim for a shade of yellow, indicating a pH range between 6 and 7.
We recommend using the Wide Spectrum kit to test the natural pH of the water you will mix with your plants’ nutrient solution. This is because the natural pH of water differs depending on water quality and profile, such as hard and soft water. This pH reading can change dramatically once nutrient solution is added. Knowing the starting pH of your water will help to determine the perfect amount of nutrient solution to add. It will also help to determine whether a pH-adjusting additive is needed to bring the nutrient solution’s pH level back into the recommended range.
The Wide Spectrum pH Test Kit is also great for time-sensitive growers with hardy plants. This kit allows growers to get an accurate pH reading without the time-consuming hassle of measuring and adjusting their nutrient and substrate’s pH to a narrower range.
Deviations away from the recommended pH can result in plant stress, poor health, toxicity and ultimately, death. Rapid fluctuations in pH can be just as damaging as the wrong pH, and certain plants are especially sensitive to sudden pH changes. The Narrow Spectrum Test Kit allows growers to monitor the environment more closely to avoid toxicity and plant death. This pH Test offers a more precise measurement between pH 6 and 7.6. There is a smaller variation of colours provided by this test, and growers should aim for a green shade, indicating a pH level between 6.2 and 7.
We recommend using the Narrow Spectrum Test Kit after getting a broader result from the Wide Spectrum kit. This will allow growers to fine-tune the plants’ nutrient solution to suit the environment’s natural pH level. The Narrow Spectrum Test Kit helps to reduce the time and effort it takes to create the perfect growing environment, as the quick, easy, and clear results show exactly how much the pH needs to be adjusted.
What’s Included?
Regardless of which kit you choose, you will receive a vial in which to test your solution sample, a bottle of reagent, and a testing card with instructions and the pH colour code for comparing the test results.
How It Works:
For accurate pH testing please follow the procedure below.
- Take a 2ml sample of solution from the tank (not stock solution) in the vial provided.
- Add 2 drops of reagent.
- Shake the vial and compare the colour against the test scale to determine the pH of the solution.
- After use it is important to store reagent in cool, dark conditions.
