Fytocell foam is an organic, biodegradable substrate added to Soil Supreme to improve its water absorption and air permeability. Acting like a sponge, it gives the substrate a water/air retention ratio of 60/30. The water and air retention properties of Fytocell foam help to feed and aerate the roots as they grow. This protects the rootzone from a build-up of stagnant water and the rot which can occur in a saturated rootzone.

Sphagnum peat is the decayed, dried material of the Sphagnum moss plant, which is sourced from Ireland. Alongside Soil Supreme’s other porosity-improving contents, peat moss dramatically increases the soil’s capacity to hold water and nutrients. This has the dual responsibility of maintaining the substrate’s nutritional value while reducing the chance of water stagnation occurring in the soil. A high-quality wetting agent supports the sphagnum peat in improving the soil’s moisture retention, meaning the substrate will require less watering overall.

Two organic acids are included in the substrate for their vital roles in creating the soil’s natural microbiome. Humic acids are organic molecules which are essential for improving soil properties, plant growth. Fulvic acid is formed when the soil’s microorganisms break down plant material over long periods of time. In some cases, this process can take centuries. In their broken-down form, the plant matter’s basic components deposits everything the soil needs to feed the plants. Fulvic acid helps to increase nutrient uptake in plants by binding minerals and other nutrients.
