With guidance from experienced grower Ian Collins, contestants Sarah and Jasmine are learning by doing — building their setups, testing equipment, and figuring things out as they go. Alongside them, host Karlos keeps the competition moving, bringing energy, questions, and a few surprises along the way.
This isn’t about perfect results or polished experts. It’s about the process — the learning curves, the decisions, the setbacks, and the moments where everything starts to click.
The Expert
Ian Collins
Years Growing: 30
Ian Collins is the founder of Global Air Supplies and the driving force behind The Great Indoors. With over 30 years of experience in indoor growing, Ian has built a reputation for deep technical knowledge, practical problem-solving and a straight-talking approach to cultivation.
As the expert behind the challenge, Ian provides guidance, insight and honest feedback throughout the competition. His role isn’t just to judge results, but to help contestants understand why things work, or don’t, so that learning is as much a part of the process as the end result.
The Host
Karlos
Meet Karlos, the voice guiding you through every twist and turn of The Great Indoors. With a talent for making growing relatable and fun, Karlos brings energy, curiosity and a keen eye for what makes both plants and people flourish.
More than just a presenter, Karlos helps bridge the gap between expert guidance and real-world challenges, keeping the competition engaging while making complex growing topics accessible to everyone.
The Contestants
In The Great Indoors, two beginners step into the world of indoor growing with different backgrounds and a shared goal: to learn, grow and compete. This season’s contestants aren’t seasoned growers, they’re everyday people taking on a challenge that pushes them beyond their comfort zones.
From first timers to outdoor gardening enthusiasts testing new skills indoors, our contestants represent the journey many of us face when we try something new. Their experiences, missteps and breakthroughs show that indoor growing isn’t reserved for experts, it’s something anyone can dive into, one plant at a time.
Entry-level
Jasmine
Years Growing: 0
Jasmine is entering The Great Indoors as a beginner to indoor growing, with just enough experience to feel quietly confident. While she’s only managed to keep one indoor plant alive so far, she does have a background in outdoor gardening, giving her a small head start when it comes to understanding plants and how they behave.
Keen to test herself in a completely different growing environment, Jasmine sees the competition as a chance to build new skills and push beyond what she already knows. With a competitive streak and a willingness to learn, she’s ready to prove that a little experience, and a lot of determination, can go a long way indoors.
Entry-level
Sarah
Years Growing: 0
Sarah is taking on The Great Indoors as a personal challenge, starting with absolutely zero growing experience, something she openly admits, including an embarrassing attempt to grow cress with her daughter that didn’t quite go to plan. Rather than being put off, it became the push she needed to properly learn how to grow.
Sarah wants to master indoor growing so she and her daughter can grow and learn together, passing on real knowledge rather than guesswork. Entering the competition as a complete beginner, she’s curious, determined and not afraid to laugh at herself along the way, proving that you don’t need experience to get started, just the willingness to try.
