S01E03 – Potting On

Plugs, blocks & pots

In this episode, Sarah and Jasmine learn how to move their plants through the next stages of development, progressing from propagation plugs into Easy Plug blocks and eventually into larger pots. As the plants grow, so does the importance of selecting the healthiest specimens and giving them the best possible environment to thrive.

From Plugs to Blocks

The first stage of the episode focuses on moving the strongest seedlings from their propagation plugs into 3-inch Easy Plug blocks.

Before anything is transplanted, Ian explains the importance of selecting the right plants. Not every seedling deserves a place in your grow, and the healthiest plant isn’t always the tallest. Instead, growers should look for thick stems, vibrant colour, strong leaf development, and overall plant health.

The blocks are soaked in Gold Roots before transplanting, helping support healthy root development and giving the plants the best possible start in their new environment.

After demonstrating the process, Ian selects his own plants before leaving Sarah and Jasmine to choose the best of the remaining seedlings for themselves — much to Sarah’s annoyance.

From Blocks to Pots

Two weeks later, it’s time for the next move…
With roots now established throughout the Easy Plug blocks, the plants are ready to be transplanted into 3L pots.

Ian demonstrates the correct technique before leaving Sarah and Jasmine to pot on their own plants. This stage introduces the growing media each grower will be using moving forward, with Sarah choosing Plant Magic Coco, Jasmine selecting Gold Label 60/40, and Ian opting for Gold Label 70/30.

As the plants are compared side by side, Ian’s crop appears noticeably stronger and healthier — before he finally reveals one of his secrets: he’s been quietly using Moonshine Sunshine to give his plants an extra boost.

With the plants now settled into their new homes, it’s time to prepare for the next stage of the grow.

Selecting The Best Plants

Not every seedling deserves a place in your grow. Before moving plants on, Ian explains what to look for and what mistakes to avoid.

Look Beyond Height

The tallest plant isn’t always the best. Instead, focus on strong stems, healthy leaf development, vibrant colour, and overall plant structure.

Choose The Strongest

Select plants that show vigorous, healthy growth. Weak, damaged, or unhealthy seedlings are unlikely to catch up later.

Handle With Care

Young plants are surprisingly delicate. Rough handling can damage stems, roots, and developing growth during transplanting.

Don’t Compress The Media

Avoid squeezing or compacting blocks and growing media. Healthy roots need access to both moisture and oxygen.

Get The Timing Right

Potting on too early or too late can slow development. Wait until the roots are properly established before moving plants into their next home.

The Scoreboard

This episode was all about progression rather than competition. With no points awarded, the scoreboard remains unchanged as both growers prepare for the challenges ahead.
